Pole Dancer Tomoko at Dr. Sketchy Tokyo | Ink & Watercolour Figure Studies (Feb 2026)
Artist Notes
Drawing of Pole Dancer Tomoko at Dr Sketchy Tokyo were created at the February 2026 Dr. Sketchy Tokyo event.
The model, Pole Dancer Tomoko (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_tomokoyamazaki), is a pole-inspired performer with exceptional control, expressive posing, and strong stage presence.
Pose lengths ranged from 2-minute gesture sketches to 20-minute longer poses. The short poses focused on speed, energy, and silhouette, while the longer studies allowed more time for proportion, structure, and tonal development. This combination makes the set a strong example of live drawing practice in both instinctive mark-making and sustained observation.
All pieces were made with Pigma Micron ink and watercolour on printer paper. Using simple materials keeps the process direct and responsive, which suits the pace of a live event. The line quality from Micron pens and the transparent layering of watercolour helped preserve movement while adding shape, contrast, and atmosphere.
This Pole Dancer Tomoko Dr Sketchy Tokyo set is also part of my wider contemporary figurative practice, where I explore gesture, personality, and performance-driven composition. Rather than aiming for photorealism, I focus on capturing pose rhythm, visual flow, and emotional character in each drawing.
